Pueblo Viejo - Metallurgy Superintendent

Metallurgist - Superintendent Barrick is looking for a Metallurgist - Superintendent to join to our Processing team. This person will be responsible for leading and overseeing the safe, efficient, and sustainable execution of the Metallurgy function by providing strategic direction for metallurgical operations, metal accounting, process control, continuous improvement initiatives, and related projects.

Ensure the integrity of metallurgical data, optimize plant performance, and drive operational excellence through effective leadership, governance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

Main Key Responsibilities Lead the metallurgical test work strategy required to support the Process Plant and Water Treatment circuits, evaluating the performance of metallurgical circuits under different operating scenarios and providing technical recommendations to the Process Plant Technical Services Superintendent and Operations Superintendents, including Growth projects (Flotation and Pre-Oxidation).

Establish and oversee the technical and safety training and certification strategy for the Process Plant Metallurgy team, ensuring compliance with metallurgical testing procedures, maintaining current standards and procedures, and strengthening organizational capability.

Drive metallurgical optimization initiatives by identifying improvement opportunities and leading the planning and execution of projects aimed at increasing productivity, debottlenecking production circuits, improving throughput and gold, silver and copper recoveries, reducing operating costs, and enhancing operational safety.

Provide strategic oversight of the Assay and Metallurgical Laboratories, ensuring ISO certification compliance, robust QA/QC practices, current procedures, and the implementation of analytical methods that improve the accuracy, reliability, and turnaround time of laboratory results. Lead the governance, optimization, and continuous development of APC/MPC systems, ensuring their effective administration and the implementation of new advanced process control solutions to maximize plant performance.

Lead the continuous improvement of forecasting and budgeting processes, ensuring effective integration and alignment across all site disciplines. Direct the development and execution of ore blending strategies in collaboration with the Mining Geology and Process teams to achieve the production targets established in the Barrick Pueblo Viejo JV KPIs.

Oversee precious metals reconciliation with the Mining Department, identifying performance gaps and ensuring the implementation of appropriate corrective and preventive actions. Direct metallurgical test work required to validate gold and silver recovery models used for operations and reserve estimation, ensuring the technical integrity of recovery assumptions and supporting continuous model optimization.

Serve as the primary technical liaison with internal and external metallurgical consultants, driving the evaluation of alternative process flowsheets, the implementation of industry best practices, and initiatives that enhance production performance and metal recovery.

Lead the governance of operational data management, production and metal accounting, KPI reporting, metallurgical balances, and operational reporting systems, ensuring compliance with the Barrick Corporate Metal Accounting Standard and the integrity of OSI-PI and other operational support platforms.

Oversee the preparation, review, and presentation of the End-of-Month Production Report, ensuring complete documentation, data integrity, and full compliance with the latest Barrick Pueblo Viejo JV Corporate Metal Accounting Standard.

Ensure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operational manuals, environmental management requirements, and operational controls associated with environmental aspects defined in the IDEAA Table, Environmental Management Programs, and applicable Operational Control Matrices.

Ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety policies, standards, procedures, regulatory requirements, and corporate initiatives, promoting a strong safety culture and operational discipline across the Metallurgy function Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Master’s degree preferred. Continuous professional development through technical training, certifications, or industry seminars preferred Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Microsoft Office Metallurgical simulation and process modeling software. OSI PI. VBA or equivalent data analysis tools. Knowledge of gold processing operations, including crushing, grinding, flotation, pre-oxidation, POX, CIL, water treatment, and metallurgical accounting. Experience commissioning and optimizing new process unit operations.

Knowledge of metallurgical test work, APC/MPC, metal accounting, laboratory QA/QC, and reconciliation processes. 10+ years of experience in metallurgical or process plant technical roles within the mining industry. 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience managing metallurgical teams. Experience leading process optimization projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-functional teams.
